Myrtle Beach in the Fall

Ahhhh……Fall.

Fall in Myrtle Beach is truly a special time. Often overlooked due to the “Summer Vacation” tradition and the excitement of warm weather in the Spring, Fall is a great time to experience the Grand Strand in a more relaxed and comfortable environment.

Here are 5 reasons why you should book your Myrtle Beach Fall Trip:

Outdoor Dining with no Humidity? Yes, Please!
  1. Cooler Temperatures

If you’ve ever been to Myrtle Beach in the late Spring or Summer, you’ve noticed one constant – HUMIDITY! Not only does this completely WRECK hairstyles, humidity hangs over everything making it tough to relax if you’re not directly oceanfront. Walking around Barefoot or Broadway in the evening means that you better put deodorant on……everywhere. In the Fall you’ll enjoy perfect temps with very low humidity. Think 72-75 degrees, sunny, and a nice refreshing breeze……ahhhhh…. Myrtle Beach weather in the fall makes that morning cup of coffee taste better, the stroll around your resort a quality jaunt, and dinner outside one of the terrific restaurants here the perfect experience.

Barefoot Landing, Broadway at the Beach, The Market Common, and Tanger Outlets are PERFECT in the Fall!
  • Fewer Crowds

Those that have visited Myrtle Beach in the Summer – especially the week of July 4th, know of the bumper to bumper traffic, long lines for restaurants, and lots of sweaty tourists crammed into specialty shops with no idea what they’re looking for. Let’s not even mention Wal-Mart on a Summer Saturday! In the Fall, you’ll feel like the beach belongs to YOU! There’s no more rushing around, you can take your time, and not have to worry about missing your turn because folks are reading the “Free Shark Tooth Necklace” sign instead of moving along. With the kids in school and many families focused on sports, school, and extra curriculars, there’s no better time to come. Great attractions, like The Duplin Winery become havens for low stress and the perfect place to release tension. You’ll feel like you’re on a true vacation! You’ll be able to forget about planning times to eat, shop, and golf and you can take on the day as it unfolds. Nice!

You’ll feel like you own the course!
  • Golf’s Second Season

One of the best things about Spring in Myrtle Beach is the opening of Golf Season. During this time, thousands of golfers descend upon the Grand Strand to get a break from the cold and get their fairway fix. Spring, however, can be a fickle partner weather-wise. You may get those 75-degree days or it may be 40! During the Fall, the temps are very consistent, and you’ll get more warm days that cool. There’s fewer travelers, so booking tee times or simply visiting your course of choice is a breeze. Also – the quintessential Golf Trip is IDEAL for the Fall due to restaurants that cater to sports fans. Baseball playoffs, College Football, NFL, NHL, and UFC all get rolling in Fall. Special Brews can be enjoyed nearly anywhere, and you’ll certainly find places that give special deals to golf groups.

Food, Fun, Friends. Festivals in the Fall are Fantastic!
  • Special Events and Festivals

Myrtle Beach doesn’t really need special events during the Summer, as the beach itself is the main attraction. During the Fall however, travelers can experience unique flavors, art, music, and culture at one of the many fall festivals. There’s Mustang Week, The Little River Shrimp Festival, Endless Summer Festival, Irish/Italian Festival, Oktoberfest, The Greek Festival, Hippie Fest, Halloween Events, and more. Each year, more and more are added as Myrtle Beach is becoming a year-round destination. These events are great opportunities to not only unwind, but to do early Christmas shopping, meet locals, and try new things. I LOVE THE FALL!

Ask for deals! You’ll save a ton in the Fall!
  • Lower Rates

This one is a no-brainer, but rates are a LOT higher in the Summer months! The Fall brings with it lower rates and special deals. Ask for deals wherever you go including accommodations, restaurants, attractions, and services. There are usually special promotions going on everywhere and all you have to do is ask. Your dollar goes farther in the Fall, for sure! Call 888-808-2788 to find out more!

There you have it! Are you ready to hit the beach this Fall? Can you taste the pumpkins spice (unless you hate pumpkins spice, of course!)? Are you ready to relax and recharge for a quick getaway? Let’s go!

Friday Finds – Bar Louie

Bar Louie’s, known for its tasty chef-inspired grub, craft cocktails, and urban atmosphere has made its way over to the Grand Strand!

Opening less than a month ago at Broadway at the Beach, Bar Louie’s has been making headway in both the day out and nightlife realms of Myrtle Beach. Featuring over 20 taps of local and regional beers, shareable flatbreads, classic burgers, and even braised short rib – you will find yourself in an endless supply of flavorful food and drinks being offered at this new hotspot. Not only is Bar Louie’s serving the Strand for lunch, happy hour, dinner, and night outs – but it is also open for brunch on the weekends! Bottomless mimosas, caramelized banana French toast, and “impossible” breakfast tacos perfect for meat lovers are just a few of the items you will find on your weekend adventure to Bar Louie’s.

There has been a misconception among locals and tourists that Bar Louie’s is the same as its former occupant Broadway Louie’s Sports Karaoke Grill. While similar in name, these two places have affiliation to each other! Bar Louie’s is a major restaurant franchise with over 140 locations across the country in places such as Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago. The establishment is known as “the nation’s hottest gastrobar!”

When Jason and I were able to visit Bar Louie’s this past Wednesday at Broadway at the Beach, we were met with several friendly faces at the entryway. Throughout our entire time at Bar Louie’s, we were very impressed by the welcoming staff who intentionally went out of their way to greet us. The employees genuinely enjoyed being there and everyone could see it.

As I walked into Bar Louie’s, I was surprised at the how spacious and open the floor plan was! Knowing what the place originally looked like before the transition, I expected it to have a much darker and tighter feel than it did. A variety of seating is provided on the first and second floors – fit for any occasion. A huge wrap around bar, large tables, and comfortable couches filled the roomy place.

One thing you will not find at this hub are hostesses. Bar Louie’s is notorious for its laid-back atmosphere where “you can seat yourself and be yourself.” You can say goodbye to being rushed in and out of your seat during your time there. This place seeks to be a place where people can come enjoy and unwind at for however long they see fit.

Because Jason and I went during our lunch break, we were able to try several foods from their $8 Lunch Special Menu! Items such as Boneless Buttermilk Marinated Boneless Wings, Oven Roasted Turkey Club Sandwich with Fries, and Charred Lemon Caesar Salad filled the menu. We asked our helpful server Brandy what options were most popular among the lunch crpws. She suggested The Blue Wedge Salad and Louie’s Choice Cheeseburger with Fries. We also made sure to try their avocado chicken tortilla soup!

To be honest, this might have been the most aesthetically pleasing salad I have ever had! Not only was The Blue Wedge Salad Instagram picture worthy, but also extremely delectable. Between the crumbled blue cheese, Applewood smoked bacon, cherry tomatoes, and pickled onions resting upon the iceberg lettuce – I was amazed at how delicious this combination worked together. Jason could not get enough of the chicken tortilla soup! In his words, he described it was “bold and flavorful – with just the perfect amount of avocado and tortilla strips!”

After our meal, we were able to get a personal tour of the place! On top of the ample amount of seating, we also got to discover other areas within the restaurant specifically for special events. Looking to host a fundraiser, birthday, or office party? Bar Louie’s has two available spaces in their facilities to host groups of 20 or more! Think about how fun it would be to have a space to accommodate your next exciting event. For more info on their private party menu, be sure to give them a call at 854-854-8544 or inquire online!

Bar Louie’s has many upcoming and exciting events as well. To stay updated, follow them on their social media pages listed below to receive updates from this new hotspot. On your next Myrtle Beach vacation be sure to come experience this welcoming and enjoyable local restaurant and bar – it is well worth it!

7 Reasons Why You Should Visit Myrtle Beach After the Summer Ends

Myrtle Beach – known for its spacious beaches, lively family attractions, delicious restaurants, and countless golf courses – will be closing shortly.  With the summer season ending and children going back to school, what is the point in visiting this popular summer vacation spot anyways? Will not everything be shutting down?

In response to the statement above that Myrtle Beach will be closing shortly, it is completely false! The area is no doubt less populated with visitors compared to June, July, and August months. Fortunately, many attractions and restaurants will remain open in the fall and winter months. So why should you visit Myrtle Beach anytime other than in the summer months? Here are 7 reasons why!

1.       Many Myrtle Beach attractions will remain OPEN!

Myrtle Beach is known for its wide variety of attractions and entertainment fit for any age.  While hours may vary at the different locations, many of the popular spots such as Broadway at the Beach and the Myrtle Beach Boulevard & Boardwalk will remain open! Ripley’s Aquarium, Wonderworks, and the Hollywood Wax Museum are a few ideas we encourage you to add to your vacation bucket list as well.

2.       There are fantastic festivals and events coming up in Myrtle Beach during the fall and winter seasons.

In September there will be the 18th Annual Mustang Week and Aynor Harvest Hoedown. October will be nothing short of fun with the popular Myrtle Beach Bike Week Fall Rally and Myrtle Beach Oktoberfest being held at The Market Common! And that’s not all – in November there will be the 50th Annual South Carolina Bluegrass Festival and Dickens Christmas Show. For a complete list of upcoming events, be sure to check out Palmetto Vacation Rentals “Calendar of Events” page under Area Guide.

3.       Less crowds equals less chaos.

How awesome would it be to skip the lines and long wait times?  With less people rushing onto the beach, dining at your favorite restaurant, or driving around the Myrtle Beach area, you will have a lot more space and time to enjoy the things that you love! Let’s face it – sometimes crowds can be pretty overwhelming – especially on vacation.

4.       Outstanding rates and available rentals being offered!

In the fall and winter months here in Myrtle Beach, you will find that rates at any condo vacation rental company are much lower compared to the summer season. Why not take advantage of the great deals being offered during the “off-season?” We here at Palmetto have a ton of fantastic deals to extend to you during these upcoming months.

5.       Fall weather (and winter too) in Myrtle Beach is prime.

Compared to the summer months with temperatures reaching up to 100 degrees Fahrenheit with added in afternoon showers, fall at the beach is perfect. Temperatures range between 62 to 75 during the fall season. In the wintertime, the average is around 57 to 61 degrees. This weather is great for walking on the beach or exploring the many festivals being held! Beat the humidity and soak in the Myrtle Beach rays during our off-season prime weather months.

6.       You can escape to the beach for more than a week!

To anyone looking to flee from the winter cold, Myrtle Beach is a great spot for all our snowbirds. We offer several long-term rentals ranging from one month to a year at a discounted rate! Think about waking up every morning to the Myrtle Beach sands and relaxing in your spacious home away from home rental.

7.       Myrtle Beach is very easy to get to.

Many visitors dread the journey it takes to get to their vacation destination. Compared to spots such as Orlando, New York City, and Los Angeles – Myrtle Beach is an easy and convenient location to drive and fly into. The Myrtle Beach International Airport offers travelers incredible deals during the fall and winter months! Skip the crowds and traffic during the summer and head on down to the beach.

Ready to come vacation in Myrtle Beach now? We here at Palmetto Vacation Rentals would love to help you! Give us a call at (888) 808-2788 or book directly online for your next getaway.  The Myrtle Beach sands are calling. We will see you soon!

Friday Finds – Pho Claire Vietnamese Noodle House

Friday Finds – Pho Claire Vietnamese Noodle House

“Bringing the best customer service through the freshest ingredients to the full bowl of Spirit – each soul, each person – one at a time”

This past Thursday the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce offered local businesses the unique opportunity to look behind the scenes at Pho Claire Vietnamese Noodle House. Located on 38th Avenue North, Pho Claire has brought a new flavor to the Grand Strand area through its fresh and healthy Vietnamese styled menu items. After opening the doors this past February, many locals and guests alike are discovering the art and taste of one-of-a-kind pho.

One may wonder what “pho” actually is. According to Sophia, Pho Claire’s owner, many are clueless about this popular Vietnamese noodle broth soup that is currently being consumed all around the world. In fact, many of us even struggle to pronounce “pho” correctly. Pronounced as “fuh,” pho at its rawest form consists of broth (usually beef or chicken), banh pho noodles (flat rice noodles), fresh herbs, and thinly sliced beef or chicken. Pho can also come in vegetarian form as well!  The process to make pho can last anytime between six to twelve hours! On top of tasting delicious, pho is also known for its amazing health benefits.

The idea to start Pho Claire sprang up with Sophia and her husband several years ago after moving to Myrtle Beach from New Jersey ten years. Sophia and her restaurant manager Tony are both originally from Vietnam. Sophia and her husband wanted Myrtle Beach to experience a true and authentic Vietnamese cuisine. With so many various dishes in different parts of Vietnam, Sophia aspired to create a menu that would encompass popular items throughout the land.

Open every day from 11 AM – 10 PM, Pho Claire offers customers a unique dining experience perfect for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. Besides pho, Pho Claire offers customizable Vietnamese sandwiches and noodle bowls, healthy salads, flavorful spring rolls + more! In addition to the delicious food menu, there are also Vietnamese inspired bubble teas, Vietnamese coffee, and fresh smoothies.

The behind the scenes tour consisted of a presentation and tasting hosted by Pho Claire. In the presentation, Jason and Alison were able to hear about the history, vision, and details of the delicious Vietnamese noodle house. After the presentation, the tasting began! Vietnamese salad, small Vietnamese “sandwiches,” wonton soup, and watermelon were a part of the delectable experience.

The words spoken from our marketing guru Jason were “I could eat this all day!” In my opinion there were several qualities from the tasting that reminded me of my time a few months ago in Thailand. While Thailand mainly had spicy items, the options from the Vietnamese Noodle House offered guests a more neutral and fresh palate. I found the food to be energizing! Jason and I agreed to Pho Claire Vietnamese Noodle House being on our top lunch places to visit in the future.

Are you ready to experience a fresh, delicious, and unique dining experience? Pho Claire is the place you need to come take a taste at! They have been open for less than six months and are making serious headway in the Grand Strand area. Whether you are a tourist visiting the area or local looking to expand your taste buds, Pho Claire Vietnamese Noodle House needs to be added to your restaurant bucket list!

Pavilion Amusement Park: A First Hand Experience 2019 | Myrtle Beach

If you enjoy amusement park rides, come on over to the Pavilion Amusement Park located at Broadway at the Beach on your next Myrtle Beach vacation! Yesterday Jason and I decided to head over to the Pavilion Amusement Park to see what all the hype was about at this this popular Myrtle Beach hotspot for locals and tourists alike. Rides such as “The Beast,” “American Swing,” and “The Rocket” intrigued our curious kids at heart personalities!

When we arrived at Broadway at the Beach, we were amazed at the variety of rides being offered to people of all ages. The Pavilion Amusement Park was divided into three different areas at Broadway at the Beach: East Park, Central Park, West Park.

East Park: Are you a fan of classic amusement park rides?

East Park has a fabulous array of original rides from the historic Pavilion and new additional rides. The Pavilion – originally located at the Myrtle Beach Ocean Boulevard officially opened in 1948 and was host to over 40 + popular rides.  After being closed in 2006, several of the popular rides from the historic landmark such as the Famous Carousel and Pirate Ship were transferred to Broadway at the Beach. East Park offers rides for all ages!

Central Park: If you are a thrill seeker, this is the area to come to!

Central Park is the area that Jason and I went to! Located right next to the Broadway at the Beach Guest Services and Tsunami Surf Shop, Central Park is easily spotted through it’s 80 foot tall slide and other exhilarating rides. The ride that we were able to go on was the American Swing. Recently added to the Pavilion Amusement Park, the American Swing is the closest sled ride you will be able to take in our sunny and hot Myrtle Beach. Up to two riders can get into one of the twenty sled cars.

Jason and I decided to take our own cars during this exciting ride to get the full experience. This ride is not for the faint of heart! In less than seconds, Jason and I found ourselves with our hands in the air screaming as we circled around the American Swing in our hanging sleds. We had a blast and thoroughly enjoyed the full eight minute experience!

As a side note, the American Swing is one of the lesser adrenaline pumping rides compared to many others in Central Park. If you are looking for a serious thrill ride, my suggestion is to try the Speed XXL! With speeds of over 50 mph and heights reaching up to 130 feet with rotating seats. This ride will have you bouncing out of your seat – literally.

West Park: Calling all the kiddos!

Over at West Park near the popular Myrtle Beach Wonderworks is where you will find the best rides for your little ones. Popular rides such as the Myrtle Turtle kids coaster, Mini Teacups, and Broadway 360 Observation Wheel have become family favorites over the years. The rides being offered at West Park also have less restriction on heights and age!

An extra bonus to the Pavilion Amusement Park– during the summer season at Broadway at the Beach, there is a beautiful firework show happening at 10 PM every Tuesday and Friday! Come eat, play, and enjoy all at Broadway at the Beach this summer.

Myrtle Beach Cupcake Crazy!

Cupcake Glory was on the line!

Do you like cupcakes? Of course! But How much?

This July 4th, 31 brave and determined souls tested their cupcake mettle in the 8th annual Croissants Bistro and Bakery Cupcake Eating Contest. The contest is held each year at the beautiful Grand Dunes Marina in Myrtle Beach, where you can find fun games, vendors, and the entertaining Patriotic Golf Cart Contest.

This year was the first time for your blog heroes, Alison and Jason, and we had a blast! The MC kept everyone involved and the music selection was upbeat and fun! We talked with several contestants and they discussed their strategies for victory. Many said the same technique: “Lots of Water”! Each contestant ponied up $20 for their entry and received a t-shirt and more importantly – their chance for cupcake immortality! Proceeds from the event went to Backpack Buddies and Help4Kids.

Right as the opening horn sounded, the focused contestants began stuffing their faces. After a few moments, it was clear who the true contenders were. 3 or 4 of these masters of mastication distanced themselves from the herd as they looked like a cross between Hungry, Hungry Hippos and Pac-Man! They would shovel in a cupcake, take a swig of water, gulp, repeat.

To the victors, go the spoils!

When the dust settled and the final horn blared, there stood one man, who had tasted the glory of the promised land before! Mark Lyle had eaten a total of 35 delicious cupcakes and was declared champion for the second straight year. Everyone cheered and a great time was had by all. See you there next year!

If I Had My Little Way, I’d Eat Peaches Every Day!

Historic, Peaches Corner!

This week’s Friday Finds sees your heroes reunited, and it feels so good!

After experiencing a once in a lifetime month-long mission trip to Thailand, Alison returns to experience a Myrtle Beach Institution of culinary delight!

Built when FDR was still in office, Peaches Corner is one of the most visited and recognizable landmarks on the Grand Strand. Built in 1937, Peaches has delighted both vacationers and locals for over 80 years!

Peaches Onion Rings = Heaven!

Located in the heart of the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk on Ocean Blvd, Peaches features some of the absolute best hot dogs, burgers, and other sandwiches in the area. Whether you are a first-time visitor or a seasoned veteran traveler to Myrtle Beach, you owe it to yourself to try one of their historically excellent “baskets” with fries or some of the most delicious (and LARGE!) onion rings around. You won’t be disappointed.

Mustard, Chili, Onions, and a Smile!

Peaches gets its name from the Peach Family who opened the restaurant in 1937 and operated it for over a decade. Back then, hot dogs sold for only 15 cents and you could get 2 for a quarter! Beer was only 10 cents! Prices are still excellent, and you get a ton of great food for a great price.

One of my earliest Myrtle Beach memories is sitting outside Peaches and at their famous counter, watching all the fun and activity of excited tourists relaxing and having fun and nothing has changed. Sitting there today, feeling that refreshing ocean breeze, while watching the hustle and bustle of folks having a big time made me feel like I did when I was a little tyke. Now, I want to head down to the Gay Dolphin and look at Shark Teeth or stand outside The Bowery and listen to those sweet sounds!  It’s a great place to unwind while taking in all that downtown Myrtle has to offer. Check it out.
